When you want to sew every free minute just to complete your current project, you know it’s a satisfying sew.
I made the Megan Nielsen Darling Ranges dress, version 3. And I never going to take it of again. Well, almost. π
It’s the SewMyStyle pick of august, and also one of the suggested shirtdresses of the #sewingtogetherforsummer shirtdress sewchallenge. I’m too late for the challenge and a bit too early for SewMyStyle. Doing my own thing at my own pace i guess..
I had this wonderful whale fabric in my stash for some time, and I wanted to make a dress out of it. (for myself, obviously). But it is a really busy print and I wanted to make a dress which was showing of the print Γ‘nd not making a complete child out of me.
(because OMG i’m turning 34 this September..)
So thank you SewMyStyle and #sewingtogetherforsummer to inspire me!
The sewing was fun! Instructions were really good, and the only time I hesitated (with the placket and biasbinding) I could check the tutorials Megan has on her website.
I even tried some pattern matching for the first time ever! Not too bad (for a first try), right?!
Look at the almost pattern matched front! It was a really tough print to pattern match, especially with the placket attached to the pattern pieces.
I used buttons from my stash. It’s a button stash my mother gave to me, with buttons from stashes from all the women of my family:Β my grandmother, great grandmother, great aunt etc. So much history!
But there were only 6 aubergine colored buttons. So i picked 2 other buttons who could spice it up, but also worked together. Hello red!
I made a size small, no adjustments.
Also. Aside from the whales, there’s a cat theme in my pictures… gheghe.
And yes, my second Darling Ranges dress is already on my cutting table. Whoop whoop!
